Tiffany & Co. Platinum Emerald Diamonds Vintage Jewelry Art Deco Brooch Pin Tiffany&Co

Tiffany & Co. Platinum Emerald Diamonds Vintage Jewelry Art Deco Brooch Pin Tiffany&Co

$19,985.00

Overall dimensions: approx 2" x 5/8" x 1/3"

Note: Please contact me if you are seriously interested in this piece and would like me to obtain an IGI Jewelry Report for it.  I can work with you on this, if you require their Jewelry Report (or similar document) before purchasing the item.

One Tiffany&Co. platinum brooch set with a 1.4ct natural emerald and approximately 5cts of natural diamonds.  This vintage brooch is a hand-assembled art-deco design, and features a large central rectangular step cut emerald surrounded by six different cuts of diamonds, totaling 80 separate diamonds. I believe it is from the 1920s-1930s. It is stamped with "TIFFANY&CO." and "IRID.PLAT" (indicating the iridium-platinum alloy commonly used in jewelry to increase strength and hardness) on the rear platinum edges, as you can see in the pictures. I received the brooch from my grandmother, who had inherited it from her mother after she passed away in 1986. I have a couple of documents from my grandmother indicating family ownership/transfer, originals of which you will receive upon purchase.

As you can see in the front side photos, the emerald has a chip in its top right corner, which is approximately 1.5mm x 1.5mm in size. The emerald itself is 9mm x 6mm x 3mm.  From any normal wearing distance and most angles of view, the chip is not at all noticeable.  Other than this chip, the brooch is in very good condition overall, with the diamond surfaces and polish being superb. (Note: emerald chip was present when my grandmother received the brooch in 1987, as stated on estate document from that year which you will receive)

The brooch recently had some minor cosmetic service done on it at Tiffany in NYC. The Tiffany service order and receipt are in the attached pictures. Also pictured is the grading/inspection report that I had done on the brooch at American Institute of Gemological Research here in Denver. Warren Pressler of AIGR confirmed to me the Tiffany origin/make, based on his evaluation of the design, workmanship, insignia, and gemstone quality. It is of the very highest caliber craftsmanship and execution, and is truly a uniquely beautiful piece and a rare find.

HISTORICAL CONNECTION
This brooch originally belonged to my great-grandmother, Mary Wilcox Plimpton, whose portrait as a young woman is shown in attached pictures. (The 1987 document you will receive states the brooch to be from the estate of Mary W. Plimpton.) Mary was the niece of Ansley Wilcox, prominent lawyer, scholar, New York political insider, and friend of Theodore Roosevelt. (I have and will provide to you a National Park Service document related to the Wilcox mansion in Buffalo which corroborates this family relationship.)  Ansley Wilcox’s home at 641 Delaware Ave, Buffalo, NY served as the site where Teddy Roosevelt took the oath of office as President of the United States following William McKinley’s assassination on Sept 6, 1901 at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo. The Wilcox mansion in Buffalo, which my great-grandmother frequently visited growing up, has now been preserved as a National Historic Site and museum.

Documentation originals provided upon purchase: Jan 2021 Tiffany&Co service order/receipt - Jan 2021 AIGR appraisal - 1980s documents showing family ownership/transfer - excerpts from National Park Service document related to Wilcox mansion historic site that indicate Mary W Plimpton's relationship to Ansley Wilcox - copies of Ancestry.com Wilcox family charts showing my relationship to Mary W Plimpton and Ansley Wilcox

See specs about the brooch below, as well as in the AIGR report shown in the pictures.
