Engagement ring purchased July 14, 2014 from Diamond Doctor, diamond and fine jewelry retailer in Dallas, Texas. Diamond Doctor began operating as Diamonds Direct on November 2, 2016.

This ring is unique because the center diamond is round brilliant cut, but set in a cushion-shaped halo of diamonds. Two shapes in one ring - perfect for the woman who can't decide which shape she likes!

The diamonds cascade only halfway down the platinum band, so there's no worry of hitting the palm of your hand on something and knocking out any diamonds.

WHY PLATINUM IS BEST

  • Platinum is the best, most luxurious metal due to its strength and resiliancy. Slightly heavier weight than gold and the most popular choice for engagement rings.

  • Gold must be redipped every decade or so to keep it's beauty. Platinum rarely requires redipping or repolishing, making it the enduring, low maintenance choice.

  • Platinum is 90-95% pure and hypoallergenic. Even 18K gold can sometimes contain other metals.

I spent two years in marketing for a wholesale diamond company (Spectrum Diamonds) and engagement ring / bridal jewelry designer (Sylvie Collection), so I know more about diamonds and engagement rings than the average consumer. When my then-boyfriend and I decided to get engaged in July 2014, I was very involved in the engagement ring decision. I loved the timeless, classic look of a round brilliant center diamond, but I also was really drawn to the cushion-cut shape. This ring was the best of both worlds - a round, brilliant cut center set in a diamond cushion-shaped halo. I loved how the diamond halo gave the illusion of a much larger center stone, and I knew I wanted diamonds only halfway down the band so there was no chance of hitting my palm on something and knocking out one of the precious stones. Given my knowledge of metals, I insisted on platinum for the reasons listed in the description. My fingers are small and slender, so this ring is a size 4.5 but could be sized up by a skilled jeweler.

I wore this ring proudly during our year engagement, always distracted by its beauty when it glittered in the sun. I always got compliments on it. We married in June 2015, and I got pregnant in October that same year. My fingers became so swollen about halfway through my pregnancy and my beautiful ring no longer fit. I took a break from wearing it, keeping it locked in our safe, until our baby was born in June 2016 and my fingers went back to normal. I became a stay-at-home mom and only wore my ring on special occasions as I wanted to keep it clean and safe from baby care. Enter another pregnancy and second baby. All this is to say, this ring was worn only intermittantly on special occasions for the majority of it's ownership (from roughly February 2016 - present). When not being worn, it was kept in a dust bag, box and locked safe.

Seven years later from its purchase, we are divorcing. As much as it saddens me to sell because I love the ring so much, I will never wear it again. I would love it to bring another woman happiness, like it brought me. It comes with the official appraisal document, signed by a GIA certified graduate gemologist.
