Second Life Cheating Ends In Real Life Divorce

This week a huge divorce made the international news. And it had nothing to do with the continuing fuss surrounding Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s marital meltdown. This time, the drama unfolded online through the mega virtual community site, Second Life.

UK couple Ann Taylor and Dave Pollard met on Second Life through a chat room and immediately hit it off online. Though their avatar characters, Dave Barmy and Laura Skye, look nothing like their real-world selves, they soon fell in love and married. First at a bricks-and-mortar registry office and later in a dreamy Second Life marriage. The two moved in together; everything seemed storybook perfect.

But Taylor became suspicious that Dave was cheating. So she hired virtual sleuth, Markie MacDonald, who caught Dave Barmy/Pollard in the act with a virtual call girl. While Dave apologized to his on- and off-line wives, their marriage began to fall apart. Just two months later, Ann found Dave cuddling with an American woman a few thousand miles away. The marriage was over.

Ann has already found a new man in another mega online gaming community World-Of-Warcraft. As for Dave, he’s virtually hitched to the American woman he met on Second Life.  (Ann, if you’re reading I Do Now I Don’t is a great place to sell your wedding and engagement rings.)
